Road Travel restrictions are now in full effect in The Hunsville Area for the G8

Restricted Access .....  

A section of Highway 60 and local roads, including Muskoka Road 23 (Canal Road), closest to Deerhurst Resort will not be accessible except to those with proper accreditations: emergency services workers, residents and employees of local businesses.

Bypass the restrictions on Highway 60.

Alternate routes as a result of restrictions to a section of Highway 60 near Deerhurst Resort. Cars traveling through the area, semi-trailer trucks, buses and other heavy vehicles should use Highway 118 and 35.

Residential access only

No detour or through traffic will be allowed on Harp Lake Road or Williamsport Road. They will be accessible only to residents on these roads or those visiting them. 

Limberlost Road, Highway 60 east of Hidden Valley Road

Residents living on these roads or travelling to and from Limberlost Road and Highway 60 east of the easternmost security gate will have to travel east on Highway 60 and south on Muskoka Road #9 (South Portage Road), to access the southern detour route to go to Huntsville.

Through-traffic: heavy commercial vehicles and cars will be rerouted to Highways 11, 35 and 118

Cars traveling through the area, semi-trailer trucks, buses and other heavy vehicles should use Highway 118 to bypass the restrictions on Highway 60.

• Those coming from the South will get off Highway 11 at Highway 118 and proceed to Highway 35 and then Highway 60, east of the restricted area.
• Those coming from the North will have to go past Huntsville to Highway 118.

Local commercial traffic, delivery trucks and heavy vehicles

Delivery trucks and other heavy vehicles from the local Huntsville area will be able to use the following alternate routes to bypass the restricted section of Highway 60: Muskoka roads 3, 9 (South Portage Road) and 10 (Britannia Road) and Brunel Road.

Car-only roads

Certain area roads have been identified for cars only. They include: White House and West Brown roads, in addition to Muskoka Road 10 (Britannia Road)

It doesn't take an Earthquake to move Uxbridge Residents just a knowledgeable Realtor® ..... but today the earth moved beneath their feet as southern Ontario felt the shock-wave from a 5.5 (later downgraded to 5.0) magnitude quake. The effects of the Quake were felt throughout southern Ontario ..... 

While Canada is subject to 3 or 4 quakes a day they are seldom felt by you or I and it takes sensitive equipment that measures sesmic activity to even know they happened. However on a few occasions a year Canadians do feel them.

Today June 23rd, 2010 was such a day

Time ..... approximately 1:42 pm
Magnitude ..... preliminary estimate of a magnitude of 5.0
Location ..... 60 km north of Ottawa
Depth ..... 19 km

"This earthquake occurred near the southern edge of the Western Quebec Seismic Zone. Earthquakes within this zone are mostly small. They tend to cluster in a wide area that is slightly elongated northwest-southeast. Historically, earthquakes in the Western Quebec Seismic Zone have caused damage roughly once a decade. Three or four smaller events each year are felt in the region but are generally too small to cause damage. The largest earthquakes known in this part of Canada occurred in 1935 (M6.1), about 250 km (150 miles) to the northwest of todays event, and in 1732 (M6.2), about 150 km (100 miles) to the east. The 1732 earthquake caused significant damage in Montreal". source USGC

Eastern Canada has been subject to Major Quakes
and experts cannot rule out the possibility of a major quake
hitting large urban/city centers such as Ottawa and Toronto

Saturday June 12th there will be more music, dance, photography, a rock climbing wall, live art demonstrations, dunk the mayor, food booths and a talent show showcasing local youth. Several local organizations will also have booths or tables at the expo.

The Duck Derby is an annual fundraiser for the Uxbridge Optimist Club.

The Uxbridge Optimists is a voulunteer organization of community oriented people who are passionate about making the world a better place for the youngest and most vulnerable of our citizens.

All funds raised by the Uxbridge Optimist Club are used to support youth activities in Uxbridge.

Uxbridge, Ontario - Moving To Uxbridge? - Uxbridge Youth Centre

Uxbridge has many very active youth groups, some church related and others that are not. One such group is the Uxbridge Youth Centre. A group of parents and local youth first came together in 2006 to look at the possibilities of establishing a youth center in Uxbridge.

Working together with members of the community local Service Clubs, schools and Town Council they raised funds and an awarness in the community of the need for a safe place for all youth to gather, and participate in positive activities and programs. Thanks to the donation of a downtown storefront by the Township Of Uxbridge and a  generous grant from The Trillium Foundationthe Uxbridge Youth Center opened its doors in 2008

With the Mandate:

"To provide facilities, programming and staffing to ensure a safe place for our youth (all youth, at risk or not) to gather, to commune, to participate in positive activities and programs, to help themselves and each other and to avail themselves of necessary resources. Our target age group is youth between 12 - 19 years." source Uxbridge Youth Center Web Site

The Uxbridge Youth Center Board, staff and youth have worked tirelesly to do just that. Over the intervening years they have: held Graffiti Clean Up days and a Graffiti Wall Competition, held dances, a Youth Extravaganza with all proceeds going towards the Haitian Relief effort, held nutritional workshops, explored and respond to social injustice here and around the world, held photography workshops, a haloween art jam and the list goes on from art to tuturing to community cleanups they have done it all.
